Pharmaceutical Technology: Controlled Drug Release - Volume 2

Extends the concepts of Volume 1 to include drug properties, design and optimization, coating and the effect of food and pharmacokinetics. This volume also reflects the growing interest in biodegradable polymers in oral and topical formulations and the use of sterile implants.

The book's first part concentrates on matrix systems, the central part with multi particulate formulations, and the closing section with an examination of opportunities with biodegradable polymers. Although the oral route remains the primary application form, the authors also include information on topical ophthalmics and implants. Based on two recent pharmaceutical technology conferences, one in Monte Carlo in 1989 and the other in Holland in 1990, this book provides a foundation on which the reader can increase his knowledge of controlled drug release.
