SOP for Distilled Water Still

OBJECTIVE

To lay down a procedure for the operation of Distilled water still.

SCOPE

This procedure applies to the pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities of PharmaSky Limited.

RESPONSIBILITY

The Quality Control Chemist is responsible for the implementation of the process.

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for the execution of the procedure.

PROCEDURE

• Open the inlet water tap and let water flow into the still until it starts flowing out of the still.
• Switch on both the heating elements and wait until distilled water starts coming out from the bottom of the condenser.
• Adjust the supply in such a way that the lower 1/3 portion of the condenser jacket is not uncomfortably hot.
• Collect the required amount of water.

• Switch off the heaters and let cold water run for another 10 minutes before finally closing the inlet tap.
• Note: Ensure that the water supply to the still is closed when the still is switched off.
