SOP for Cleaning Procedure for Conductivity Meter

What is Conductivity Meter basic principle?
Conductivity is the ability of a solution to conduct electric current. The principle by which instruments measures conductivity is simple - two plates (cells) are placed in the sample, a potential is applied across the plates and the current is measured. Generally, the potential is in the form of a sine wave.

How does a conductivity meter work?
As seen in the animation, a conductivity meter consists of a probe that measures conductivity. A small electrical current flows between two electrodes set a certain distance apart, usually around 1 cm. If there is a high concentration of ions in the solution, the conductance is high, resulting in a fast current.

OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for cleaning of Conductivity meter

SCOPE
This SOP shall be applicable for Conductivity meter installed in Quality Control Laboratory at XYZ Limited

RESPONSIBILITY
Execution : Chemist and above-QC department

PROCEDURE
Frequency: After use
  • Take out the electrode dipped in the test solution.
  • Clean the electrode with purified water in a beaker and soak it with tissue paper.
  • After cleaning, again dip the electrode in water for further use
  • After completion of cleaning of the conductivity meter, record the cleaning details in instrument log card as per current version of SOP.
