OBJECTIVE
To provide a detailed procedure for transferring materials to the sterile area.
SCOPE
This SOP is applicable when transferring materials to the sterile area in the Microbiology Laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITIES
It is the responsibility of the microbiologist to ensure that the procedure is fully followed.
It is the responsibility of the Q.C Manager to ensure that the procedures are fully followed.
PROCEDURE
- Sanitize the tray for carrying the materials with 70% v/v Isopropyl alcohol.
- Wipe the surface of the containers of the materials to be transferred on the tray with 70% v/v isopropyl alcohol.
- For materials transferred from the autoclave ignore step 4.2 and proceed to the next step.
- Carry the tray carefully into the sterile testing area or transfer through the dynamic pass box.

- Disinfect your hands with 70% v/v isopropyl alcohol.
- Transfer all the materials from the tray onto the area provided.
- Where necessary transfer the materials on to the lamina airflow cabin for testing.
- Upon completion of work, transfer the materials back to the tray and carry them to the appropriate areas.
