OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for the operation of the Refrigerator for better and error-free use.
SCOPE
This SOP covers the monitoring of temperature in refrigerators used for the chilling and storage of standards and liquid samples.
The applicable range of the digital thermometer used for refrigerators is 2 to 8°C.
RESPONSIBILITY
It is the responsibility of every QC personnel to follow this procedure and maintain the daily records.
It is the responsibility of the QC Manager to ensure that the procedures are followed fully and without deviation.

PROCEDURE
Operational Procedure
- Ensure that instrument power supply is connected to main power supply and switch “ON” the mains. Instrument contains refrigerator on upper side and deep freeze on lower side.
- Place the items required into refrigerator/ deep freeze after achieving the temperature.
- Temperature in the refrigerator should be 2 to 8°C.
Precautions
- Door shall be closed firmly.
- Door shall be opened for minimum time.
- Do not overload the fridge with samples.
- Once temperature is set, do not disturb the Reference temperature and Freezer temperature button.
Temperature Monitoring and Recording
- Minimum and maximum temperature for refrigerator shall be read and manually recorded on an Attachment-I twice daily and the memory reset each time.
- On weekends and holidays, the QC Person will read the minimum and maximum temperatures on the next working day and record the range for the closed days on the temperature log.
