OBJECTIVE:
To lay down the procedure for Cleaning of Glassware used in quality control Laboratory.
SCOPE:
This SOP shall be applicable to clean the glassware in Quality Control Laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Execution : Lab Attendant - QC department
Checking : Chemist and above – QC department.
PROCEDURE:
- Wear goggles and hand gloves before cleaning of glassware
- Drain out the left-over solutions of the glassware into the sink in washing area
- Clean the glassware such as flasks, beakers, pipettes, burettes, bottles, etc. in the following manner:
- First wash the used glassware properly with tap water
- Then scrub/Rinse the glassware with liquid soap solution
- Rinse the glassware properly with tap water
- Again rinse 3 to 4 times with Purified water.
- Drain the water from glassware.
- Ensure the cleanliness by visual checking and if it is not clean then clean by using dilute HCl and nitric acid
- Keep cleaned glassware in oven at about 50°C, use dried glassware for analysis.
- Cleaning of glassware with dilute HCl/Dilute nitric acid (Where ever necessary)
- Rinse the glassware with dilute hydrochloric acid/nitric acid or if required allow it to stand overnight
- Rinse with plenty of tap water
- Again rinse 3 to 4 times with Purified water.
- Ensure the cleanliness by visual checking and if it is not clean then discard the glassware.
